About New River Conservancy
For over 50 years, the New River Conservancy has been protecting the New River watershed by protecting and donating land to the public, cleaning up the river where it needs it most, partnering with businesses and communities who have a tremendous ability to help, and raising awareness for what the New River means to us all. Begun in the late 1960's by a small group of would-be activists to fight for the New River against a two-pump dam, the Conservancy became a three-state organization at a meeting at Hawks Nest State Park in 1975 to complete and win the fight. These are the shoulders they stand on. This is the legacy, and with that same fighting spirit, the New River Conservancy offers passionate advocacy and a shared mission to protect the waters, woodlands, wildlife and communities that depend on a healthy New River.
