Lower New River Rapid Run Half Day

Highway 19 runs North and South about a mile from our campus, putting Adventures on the Gorge smack dab in the middle of half of America's road trips.

Take a break from the road. Grab a paddle. Our Rapid Run is the classic Lower New River trip, but with no lunch and no frills. We'll get you on for this half-day express trip and back to Adventures on the Gorge with plenty of daylight left for your drive.

No matter the season, the Rapid Run trip begins at Cunard, West Virginia near our Adventures on the Gorge resort and runs eight miles through 27 rapids up to Class V rapids.

About the New River

The New River is the classic upon which the West Virginia whitewater rafting industry was built. It's a drop-pool river, which means placid pool punctuated by moments of excitement. The New has several "sections" that we run. Some are excellent beginner and family-friendly trips, while others better for those who want more excitement and a bigger challenge.

About the Lower New River

The Lower New River is West Virginia whitewater rafting at its best. A large volume river, the Lower New's rapids are formed by large shelf drops and boulders. These structures create monster waves, hydraulics and world class whitewater.

Guide Information

On class III-IV and harder trips, a guide sits in every raft and provides instruction at each major rapid and throughout the trip. On some trips like the Upper New and Summer Gauley, guests may be in their own inflatable kayaks (duckies). If that is the case, guides will be present to instruct, advise and assist.

Boat Size

Our standard rafts are 16 feet long, comfortably seating 8-9 guests and a guide.

Time on Water

This is a half-day trip. You'll spend 2-3 hours on the water plus travel to and from the river.
